The CNC Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC machines to manufacture precision metal components that meet exact engineering and quality specifications. This role interprets complex blueprints, selects tooling and fixtures, performs machine adjustments, and verifies product accuracy using precision measuring instruments. By maintaining equipment, completing production and inspection documentation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams, the CNC Operator ensures efficient production, consistent quality, and reliable delivery of machined components while supporting safe and continuous manufacturing operations.

Requirements

  • Proficient in CNC setup and operation.
  • Ability to make program edits and adjustments.
  • Strong understanding of machining practices and speeds/feeds for stainless steel, steel, and aluminum.
  • Excellent blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers).
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
  • Competent in basic computer use and ERP system labor tracking.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Minimum: 2 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with vertical and/or horizontal CNC mills or lathes.
  • Experience machining stainless steel, steel, and aluminum components.

Nice To Haves

  • 3–5 years of experience, including program editing and multi-axis machine operation.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machines for the production of parts in stainless steel, steel, and aluminum, including loading programs, setting tooling, and fixtures.
  • Make necessary offsets and adjustments to CNC programs and machine settings based on job requirements and inspection data.
  • Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and use calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments to ensure precision.
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and routine care on equipment to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
  • Accurately complete job travelers, inspection logs, and labor tracking in the computer system.
  • Coordinate with other departments or team members to meet production goals and resolve issues.
