About The Position

The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC equipment to produce high-quality steel components in accordance with engineering specifications and production schedules. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards to ensure efficient operations and the fabrication of accurate, durable parts. The CNC Machinist will interpret blueprints, perform measurements and inspections, and collaborate with the production team to meet customer and project requirements.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience operating CNC equipment such as plate processors, coping machines, saw/drill lines, angle lines, and similar systems (e.g., Kinetic, PythonX, Voortman, Peddinghaus, or equivalent).
  • Ability to use manual and CNC measuring devices to verify material and part dimensions.
  • Working knowledge of CNC tooling, drilling and plasma consumables, and basic machine setup and adjustment.
  • Ability to follow quality control procedures and maintain accurate documentation and traceability records.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude sufficient to perform routine inspections, cleaning, and light maintenance.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 12 months’ experience inspecting, maintaining, and operating CNC machinery in a manufacturing or structural steel environment.

  • Strong mathematical skills, including fraction-to-decimal conversions and geometry.
  • Experience processing structural steel shapes.
  • Proficient computer skills for machine operation and data entry.
  • OSHA-10 Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Safely inspect, set up, operate, and monitor CNC-controlled equipment, including drill lines, plasma tables, coping machines, angle lines, robotic cappers, and saws, to meet production and quality requirements.
  • Read and work from pre-nested cut sheets, shop drawings, production schedules, and work instructions.
  • Install, adjust, assemble, disassemble, and inspect machine tooling, consumables, and machine settings based on job specifications.
  • Measure raw material (using tape measures, calipers, or other measuring tools) and finished parts to verify dimensional accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
  • Perform in-process and final quality control inspections and maintain required documentation and product traceability.
  • Load, unload, stage, and stack material in a safe and organized manner.
  • Identify structural steel profiles and materials as required for production.
  • Apply problem-solving skills to identify and address routine production, quality, or equipment issues.
  • Accurately complete production, inspection, and material records using company forms or systems.
  • Perform routine cleaning, inspections, light maintenance, and minor equipment repairs as required.
