About The Position

Load and operate Computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. This role involves understanding blueprints, using precision measuring instruments, monitoring machine operations, verifying finished part specifications, and performing general machine maintenance. The employee is regularly required to stand while performing their duties.

Requirements

  • Competent in required job skills and knowledge; exhibits ability to learn and apply new skills; requires minimal supervision; uses resources effectively.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic Computer Skills including use of email may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece.
  • Measures dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Uses precision measuring instruments such as Calipers, Micrometers, Bore Gauges etc.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  • Works with Set-up personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Conducts general maintenance of the machines they are operating: Coolant, lubrication oil levels.
  • Counts and labels finished parts.
  • Transports finished parts over to shipping and receiving dept personnel if needed.
