About The Position

ASRC Federal Advanced Research is seeking a full-time CNC Machinist in Warren, MI. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to provide technical services in the area of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining. These technicians shall support in assisting the United States Government / Military in the design and development of equipment for military, commercial, construction and prototype vehicle platforms.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of related experience or equivalent training and certification.
  • Highly organized, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and respond quickly to short deadline actions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to pass a US Government background check.
  • Experience with Master Cam (CAM) (Modules: Mill level 3, lathe, multi-axis, solids, 2d/3d advanced tool paths), G & M Programming, Haas or similar machines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience on water jet / laser machining, mill and/or lathe.
  • Knowledge of Government (DoD, US Army, TACOM) policies and procedures/nomenclature, work methods, manuals, and other established guidelines.
  • Experience with OMAX (static head, tilted-jet and a-jet) and Flow (dynamic, hyper-jet) water jet cutting machines.
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance of water filtration systems for water jet cutting machines.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC 3, 4, 5-axis machining, CNC lathes and mills, turn mills, and grinders.
  • Manually operate drill presses, lathes, mills, grinders, and other typical support shop equipment.
  • Read and interpret drawings and sketches in accordance with the Fabrication Schedule.
  • Plan and lay out work, fabricate parts to print, determine work procedures, select machines, sequence machining operations, program speeds and feeds, and determine tooling requirements, equipment, and attachments (jigs and fixtures) for ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  • Utilize quality control measuring techniques to verify part requirements and use Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Operate multiple machines, monitor displays, manually enter commands, and adjust machine controls to correct malfunctions.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot problems on machines.
  • Create drawings, sketches, and tool paths of part profiles from provided drawings or download, translate, and manipulate .dxf files.
  • Program machines to cut quantities of ferrous and nonferrous materials.
  • Check components for dimensional accuracy and tolerance against the drawing and correct any discrepancies.
  • Provide technical services in water jet cutting including setup, programming, and maintenance of water jet cutting machines (OMAX, Flow).
  • Use OMAX (static head, tilted-jet and a-jet) and Flow (dynamic, hyper-jet) machines.
  • Perform basic maintenance of water filtration systems for water jet cutting machines, including changing filters, cutting substrates, and cutting tips.
