About The Position

The CNC Machinist is responsible for planning, programming, and executing machining operations by interpreting technical documentation and preparing equipment for efficient production within scheduled downtime windows. This role requires strong technical expertise in operating lathes and mills, implementing setup processes, performing detailed quality inspections, and adhering to TPM, safety, and customer standards throughout the machining cycle. The ideal candidate demonstrates attention to detail, the ability to troubleshoot and optimize machining processes, and a commitment to maintaining consistent production quality while effectively communicating across shifts.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and previous use of FANUC controls.
  • 5 years of work experience in a Swiss Lathe Machinist role and CNC based role.
  • Ability to read micrometers to hold tolerances within .005 of an inch.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, part drawing, dimensions, and angles.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review 21-hour production plan, complete required TPM and all machine support functions to effectively productionize machine in the 3-hour planned downtime window
  • Organize and plan machining multiple part programs by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Inspect the quality of parts made using hand tools such as gauge blocks, height gauge, calipers, comparator and other tools. Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Adhere to quality inspection criteria and improve as necessary working with Quality Engineer
  • Implement 1st piece off setup process, document tool usage when tool change is required and change tooling as wear life dictates once established. Use touch off tools using touch setter or height gauge.
  • Review and implement setup sheets and touch tools using touch setter and height gauge.
  • Setup machine for next extended run. Conduct first, last, and hourly part check.
  • Ensure the correct raw materials and tools to have efficient machine setup process
  • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs
  • Load bar feeder by lifting stock into position
  • Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to customer standards
  • Adhere to TPM standards as determined by machine.
  • Maintain part to print specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
  • Maintain equipment by completing TPM requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs
  • Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
