About The Position

Responsible for performing intermediate level technical work and related activities associated with the planning, engineering, design, analysis, research, development, testing, construction, maintenance, and operation of Company equipment and facilities.

Requirements

  • Technician - Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/ Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields with a minimum of 2 years of related utility industry Or a high school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of related utility industry work experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Technician Sr – Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/ Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields, with a minimum of 4 years of related utility industry work experience, Or High school diploma or GED, with a minimum of 6 years of related utility industry work experience, including experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge.
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Walk right ways of various terrain in adverse conditions to patrol distribution power lines to determine damage.
  • Carry and handle telescopic measuring sticks and switching sticks that weigh 11 pounds.
  • May be required to use a brush axe (approx. 6 pounds) or machete (approx. 2 pounds) to clear brush for walking and staking in survey work.

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting poles, lines, and attachments
  • Coordinating pole attachments between utilities and telecom companies
  • Checking for safety and clearance issues
  • Supporting make-ready work before new equipment is installed
  • Keeping records and helping ensure compliance with utility standards
  • Uses knowledge and experience to perform cost effective work in an efficient manner.
  • Exhibits understanding of pertinent equipment, material, systems, and processes.
  • Possesses intermediate level of computer literacy knowledge/skills.
  • Understands and works within appropriate policies and follows procedures.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees where beneficial.
  • Develops knowledge of time constraints for work activities and makes proper adjustments where needed.
  • Actively seeks out information to increase technical knowledge and job skills where beneficial to AEP.
  • Contributes to team goals.
