About The Position

Newport News Shipbuilding (a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries) partners with the Department of Defense to offer CNC Machinist positions to graduates of the Workshops for Warriors program. Requirements

Successful completion of the Workshops for Warriors CNC Machining 1 program (640 hours/16 weeks) in San Diego, CA
Pass a pre‑employment hair‑follicle drug screen, physical abilities test, and background investigation
Detail‑oriented, reliable, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team
Workshops for Warriors CNC Machining 1 certification

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain a variety of manual and CNC equipment, including lathes, mills, vertical machining centers, and horizontal boring mills
Assist in machine setup, tool changes, and program loading to ensure efficient production runs
Perform in‑process quality inspections, verifying dimensions against engineering drawings and specifications
Troubleshoot machining issues, make adjustments, and document corrective actions
Follow all safety, quality, and documentation procedures to meet NNS standards
