CNC Machinist 2nd Shift

Gleason•Rochester, NY
•$22 - $27

About The Position

Gleason Corporation is seeking machinists for second-shift openings at its manufacturing operations. The position is open to candidates across a wide range of experience, from entry-level machinists to master-level professionals. Machinists set up and operate conventional and/or CNC machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. They inspect finished parts to verify that they meet print specifications. Machine tools may include lathes, horizontal and vertical mills, CNC multi-axis machining centers, internal and external precision grinders, and CURVIC® coupling grinders, with tolerances ranging from .001 inches to .00005 inches depending on the process. The role is structured across four machinist levels. Responsibilities and autonomy expand from basic setups and operations performed with supervision and guidance at Level I, through more complex machining, CNC program editing, and training at Levels II and III, to advanced programming, process development, troubleshooting, design feedback, and mentoring at Level IV. All machinists are expected to meet production targets, follow company and department procedures, apply quality assurance practices, cooperate with teammates, support productivity, participate in continuous improvement and 5-S activities, and help reduce scrap and rework. The posting lists an hourly pay range of $18 to $30, dependent on qualifications and experience. Flexible four-day work week options are available in some departments. Gleason also identifies a New York State Apprenticeship Program, shift premiums for second- and third-shift schedules, and an excellent benefits package that includes a 6% company 401(k) match. The position requires willingness to work overtime and different shifts as needed to meet productivity and customer requirements.
