This role involves working from prints or drawings to produce a variety of items, including precision items beyond the capabilities of production machine operators. The machinist will follow lockout-tagout procedures, maintain a clean and safe work area, and perform preventative maintenance on machines. Key tasks include milling, turning, drilling, tapping, deburring, bench operations, and inspection. The position requires reading and interpreting blueprints, planning setups, and operating machine shop tools to produce parts to specified tolerances. Responsibilities also include cleaning up scrap, loading parts, proving programs, operating controls, setting offsets, performing simple edits, and inspecting quality parts. The machinist will study drawings, manuals, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequences of operations, and setup requirements. They will detect equipment malfunctions and adjust machines as needed to ensure quality production, and communicate with supervisors regarding assignments and issues. Other duties may be assigned as business needs change.
