About The Position

The CNC Machinist / Horizontal Boring Mill Operator sets up, programs, operates, and maintains CNC and manual machining equipment to manufacture, repair, and refurbish precision industrial pump components. The role involves operating Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM) and performing complex machining operations while meeting quality, safety, and production standards. The machinist interprets drawings and specifications, determines tooling and machining methods, and completes assigned work from start to finish with minimal supervision. The position works closely with supervisors, lead personnel, engineering, quality, repair personnel, inspectors, and other departments to support efficient workflow and high-quality results. Duties also include inspecting parts, maintaining equipment and work areas, documenting production and quality activities, and safely handling large components using cranes, forklifts, and rigging equipment. The work takes place in a manufacturing environment around machinery and equipment and requires physical activity throughout the shift.

  • Experience operating Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM).
  • Experience machining and repairing industrial pump components.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of CNC machine setup, tooling selection, offsets, and machining processes.
  • Strong mathematics, trigonometry, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, grinders, and shop equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
  • Ability to lift and handle heavy materials and remain physically active throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery and equipment and safely operate shop equipment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Nice To Haves

  • CNC programming and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience in pump repair, rotating equipment repair, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of pump assembly, disassembly, tolerances, and critical fits.
  • Experience machining large castings, fabricated components, and rotating equipment.
  • Experience in the oil and gas, power generation, water, petrochemical, or industrial process industries.

Responsibilities

  • Follow company safety policies, procedures, ISO requirements, and quality and operational standards.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Complete required production, quality, timekeeping, and work-assignment documentation.
  • Communicate with supervisors, lead personnel, machinists, inspectors, and other departments.
  • Set up and operate CNC and manual machining equipment, including Horizontal Boring Mills.
  • Perform boring, drilling, milling, facing, threading, complex angle cuts, and other precision machining operations to required tolerances.
  • Complete assigned jobs from start to finish with minimal supervision and determine effective machining methods and setups.
  • Inspect manufactured and repaired parts before removing them from the machine, and verify dimensional accuracy against customer and engineering requirements.
  • Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain product quality and protect equipment.
  • Machine, repair, and refurbish pump casings, impellers, shafts, sleeves, wear rings, bearing housings, and related rotating equipment components.
  • Interpret pump drawings, engineering specifications, and repair procedures, and collaborate with engineering, quality, and repair personnel on machining and repair methods.
  • Determine tooling requirements and machining processes; identify pre-programmable and manual programming steps.
  • Establish loading positions and workholding methods; load and install tooling; program tool offsets and machining parameters; and verify program accuracy before production.
  • Monitor machine operation, make program adjustments, and troubleshoot machining issues as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and technical specifications; apply mathematics and trigonometry to calculate dimensions and tooling requirements.
  • Determine unspecified dimensions using available engineering data and resolve machining challenges to improve efficiency.
