About The Position

Advex Corporation is seeking CNC Machinists to support machining operations for U.S. Navy and marine defense programs. This position performs setup, operation, and inspection activities on CNC machining equipment in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to develop their machining skills while working with modern equipment and supporting the production of critical defense components. Advex is currently expanding its machining capabilities through the installation of new Okuma 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC milling centers. Depending on experience, demonstrated capability, and operational needs, machinists may be assigned to a variety of equipment ranging from enclosed vertical machining centers and wire EDM machines to large bridge mills and horizontal boring mills.

Requirements

  • Basic CNC machining knowledge, vocational training, apprenticeship experience, or equivalent manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions and manufacturing procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic shop math and measurement functions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and machining techniques.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a United States citizen due to federal contract requirements.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation and pre-employment drug screening.
  • No felony convictions involving theft, deception, or violent crimes within the past seven years.
  • No felony drug convictions within the past three years.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous CNC machining experience.
  • Experience operating Okuma CNC equipment.
  • Experience with 4-axis or 5-axis machining.
  • Experience in a job shop or low-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with precision inspection equipment and GD&T.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machining equipment in accordance with work instructions and engineering requirements.
  • Perform machine setups, including fixture installation, tooling selection, and work offset adjustments.
  • Select, install, and maintain cutting tools required for machining operations.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Review CNC programs and perform minor program edits when authorized.
  • Conduct in-process inspections to verify dimensional accuracy and product quality.
  • Identify and communicate machining, tooling, or quality concerns to supervision.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work area.
  • Support production schedules while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, programmers, inspectors, and fellow machinists.
