About The Position

True Anomaly is hiring a CNC Machinist in Long Beach, California, to help build hardware for space missions and establish and expand the company’s machine shop. The role focuses on R&D prototyping and rapid iteration, partnering closely with engineering to assess manufacturability and turn designs into precision aerospace components. The machinist will help define machining processes and standards, select equipment and tooling, and contribute to the shop’s setup and future production capability. The position involves programming, setting up, and operating CNC equipment; developing CAM toolpaths; fabricating and inspecting components; and providing design-for-manufacturability input. The role also works across structures, propulsion, avionics, and test teams to ensure components integrate with the broader vehicle architecture. Candidates must be located near Long Beach, CA. The position is open until filled.

Requirements

  • CNC machining experience, including demonstrated proficiency in 5-axis milling and complex multi-axis programming.
  • Strong CAM experience with Mastercam, Esprit, or HyperMill, including writing programs and making informed toolpath decisions.
  • Track record working in an R&D or prototype-heavy environment where parts vary.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D CAD models such as SolidWorks or CATIA.
  • Experience machining a range of materials, including aluminum alloys, titanium, stainless steel, and advanced composites.
  • Strong metrology skills and familiarity with inspection equipment and methods.
  • Ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain DFM concerns and tooling recommendations to engineers.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations under applicable export regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or space hardware manufacturing.
  • Prior involvement in machine shop build-outs, equipment procurement, or facility stand-up.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and 5S principles.
  • Experience with turning, EDM, surface grinding, or other complementary processes.
  • Exposure to cleanroom protocols, FOD/ESD awareness, and aerospace quality standards such as AS9100 and ITAR.
  • Background in fixture design and development for complex geometries.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate 5-axis CNC mills, lathes, and other CNC machines to manufacture precision aerospace components from engineering drawings and models.
  • Develop and optimize CAM toolpaths for complex multi-axis parts using Mastercam, Esprit, or HyperMill, managing the workflow from model import through proven first article.
  • Partner with engineers to rapidly iterate on prototype hardware and provide machining insight on early-stage designs.
  • Help lay out and establish the machine shop, including specifying and purchasing machines, tooling, fixturing, metrology equipment, and consumables.
  • Provide design-for-manufacturability input early in the design cycle to reduce cost, lead time, and complexity while maintaining performance.
  • Maintain tight tolerances and workmanship standards; inspect work using metrology tools and ensure compliance with engineering requirements.
  • Coordinate with structures, propulsion, avionics, and test teams to ensure machined components integrate with the vehicle architecture.

Benefits

  • 100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, with HSA/HRA options.
  • Flexible Time Off for exempt employees or accrued PTO of up to 25 days for non-exempt employees.
