About The Position

Dahlquist Machine by Fathom is a premier precision machining company with over 50 years of experience, specializing in short- to medium-run quantities for high precision light metals, aluminum, and plastic parts. Fathom Manufacturing is a large digital manufacturing platform offering on-demand manufacturing in North America, with extensive capabilities in additive technologies, CNC machining, injection molding, urethane casting, and sheet metal fabrication. The CNC Vertical Mills Machinist plays a critical role in producing high-quality, intricate parts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position requires proficiency in setting up and operating advanced CNC vertical machining centers (Brother, OKK, and YCM), employing MDI programming, and performing manual inspections. The Machinist will troubleshoot issues, work with diverse materials, and drive continuous improvement. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and clear communication across shifts are essential to meet rigorous quality standards and on-time delivery goals. This role demands the ability to make critical decisions under pressure, a commitment to safe work practices, and strict adherence to company EH&S policies.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a relevant field, or 3+ years of experience in milling, or 5+ years of overall CNC machining experience
  • Familiarity with Brother, OKK, or YCM machines preferred
  • Experience with various materials, such as aluminum, plastic, and steel
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Proficiency in manual inspection using gauges and instruments in support of CMM inspection
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Capable of handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Good communication skills for effective teamwork

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC vertical machining centers (Brother, YCM, and OKK)
  • Perform MDI (Manual Data Input) programming for efficient part production
  • Conduct manual inspections using gauges and instruments to ensure part quality before submitting to the Quality Department for CMM inspection
  • Interpret complex 2-D drawings and apply GD&T principles
  • Monitor and inspect parts throughout the machining process
  • Follow company quality and safety procedures
  • Communicate and collaborate with team members to resolve technical issues
  • Participate in lean manufacturing initiatives to improve processes
