About The Position

Precision Custom Components (PCC) is seeking a talented CNC Machinist Journeyman (2nd Shift) to join their team. This is an on-site position reporting to their manufacturing facility in York, PA. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit (union). The current wage is $39.09 per hour plus a $2.00 per hour shift differential for 2nd shift (3:30 PM – 11:55 PM). As a CNC Machinist Journeyman, you will play a critical role in producing complex components used in commercial nuclear, defense, energy, aerospace, and industrial applications. This position requires a strong understanding of machining principles, blueprint interpretation, precision measurement, and CNC machine operation. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to quality, safety, continuous improvement, and craftsmanship while contributing to the efficient operation of the manufacturing team.

Requirements

  • Journeyman papers required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Demonstrated experience operating and setting up CNC milling equipment, including vertical and horizontal machining centers.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, process documentation, and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge and practical application of current GD&T standards.
  • Strong understanding of machining practices, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, and precision measurement techniques.
  • Ability to use a variety of inspection and measuring instruments to verify compliance with dimensional requirements and tolerances.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as applied to machining operations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work 2nd shift (3:30 PM – 11:55 PM).
  • U.S. citizenship is required at time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Operate vertical and horizontal CNC milling machines to manufacture precision components in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and production requirements.
  • Independently set up, adjust, and operate CNC machining centers, including loading programs, selecting tooling, establishing work offsets, and verifying machine readiness prior to production.
  • Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, process sheets, and technical specifications while applying current Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Monitor machining operations throughout production runs to ensure dimensional accuracy, proper surface finishes, and conformance to customer and company requirements.
  • Utilize precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, depth gauges, and other inspection instruments to verify product quality and maintain tight tolerances.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections while accurately documenting inspection results and production data as required.
  • Conduct routine machine adjustments, tool changes, tool wear compensation, and basic troubleshooting to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Identify and communicate quality, tooling, equipment, or process concerns to supervision and support personnel while assisting with corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety policies, work instructions, quality procedures, and applicable manufacturing standards.
  • Handle raw materials, work-in-process, and finished components using appropriate lifting devices, material handling equipment, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area in accordance with 5S and housekeeping expectations.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, programmers, quality personnel, maintenance technicians, and fellow machinists to support operational goals, improve processes, and ensure on-time delivery of customer products.
