About The Position

The CNC Machinist II operates and performs basic setups on computer-controlled, single- or multiple-spindle lathe-type screw machines with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to machine metal bar stock. The role produces parts to expected levels, inspects work for conformance with specifications, troubleshoots basic machining issues, and makes process or tooling adjustments as needed. The machinist may train and assist less experienced employees but has no supervisory responsibility. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and at least three years of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. It also requires basic computer skills, the ability to interpret technical and safety instructions, basic algebra and geometry skills, and evidence of “US person” status under ITAR. The work involves frequent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles, and usually loud noise. Personal protective equipment is required in specified areas. Pay is $23–$29 per hour.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least three years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge of CNC processes, procedures, and functions.
Ability to perform basic setups, tool changes, and tool-life parameter adjustments on at least three different machines.
Basic computer skills, including knowledge of mainframe systems and data entry, and familiarity with spreadsheet and word-processing software.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations.
Ability to calculate figures and apply basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to follow detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions and solve problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
Evidence of “US person” status is required under ITAR.
Ability to frequently talk or hear and occasionally stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Wear personal protective equipment in specified areas.

Responsibilities

Operate machines to produce parts at expected levels.
Troubleshoot basic machining issues, including burrs, steps, and finish problems.
Perform basic setups, tool changes, and tool-life parameter adjustments on at least three different machines.
Adjust machine feed and speed or machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or equipment malfunctions.
Measure finished work pieces with precision instruments, templates, and fixtures to confirm conformance to specifications.
Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
Train employees at the CNC Machinist I level and below in machine operation, techniques, quality, and productivity as needed.
Shadow and assist onboarding team members.
Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
Listen for signs of dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate.
Stop machines to remove finished work pieces or change tooling, setup, or work-piece placement according to machining sequences.
Read blueprints or job orders for product dimensions, tolerances, quantities, and tooling instructions.
Perform record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and required safety practices.
Use calipers, micrometers, and gauging tools to inspect parts for dimensional and tolerance conformance.
Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC), verify samples against blueprint specifications, and adjust processes as needed.
Recognize cosmetic nonconformances, take action to prevent further nonconformance, and notify a supervisor as appropriate.
Follow department 5S procedures, including keeping floors free of oil and debris, returning tools to their proper locations, organizing part pans, and completing other housekeeping duties.
Attend required internal and external job-related training.
Comply with applicable government, company, and HSE rules, policies, procedures, plans, reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures.
Immediately bring known or suspected nonconformance with company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention.
Seek opportunities to improve HSE performance and report progress toward objectives and targets.
Suggest waste-elimination initiatives related to the function and department, such as recycling and reducing paper waste.
Participate in promoting HSE culture, correcting or reporting unsafe or environmentally risky conditions, implementing preventive actions, and contributing to risk or incident analyses and HSE working groups when requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
