About The Position

The CNC Lathe Machinist operates a lathe to process raw materials into parts and components, producing aerospace parts according to blueprints, sketches, and work orders with minimal supervision. The role specializes in operating a lathe and includes difficult operations requiring complicated setups or a high degree of accuracy. The machinist determines feeds, speeds, tooling, and operation sequences; inspects and measures parts; and adjusts machine offsets. The position also maintains supplies of perishable tools and provides operational support to the Production team. Other duties may be assigned by management. This position works in a manufacturing environment. Employees may encounter moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather, extreme heat, electrical-shock risk, vibration, and usually loud noise. The role requires frequent standing and handling or operating machinery, and may involve lifting up to 40 pounds, with lift assistance required for objects over 40 pounds.

Requirements

High school diploma.
10+ years’ experience operating CNC lathes.
Experience reading blueprints.
Three years of work or volunteer experience in an office environment.
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) under the ASME Y14.5-2009 standard.
Knowledge of general machining practices, including cutting-tool nomenclature and uses, speed calculations, material composition, basic fixture functions, and inspection and checking methods.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Ability to read, write, sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
Strong attention to detail, communication, multitasking, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work as part of a team and interact with internal personnel in Sales, Estimating, Shipping, and Administration.
Commitment to safety.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including standing, walking, reaching, using hands to operate machinery, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 40 pounds; proper lift assistance is required for objects over 40 pounds.
Required vision abilities may include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; hand-eye coordination and quick reaction times are required in high-pressure situations.

Nice To Haves

1–2 years’ experience in the aerospace industry.
Forklift certification.
Knowledge of HAAS ST30 and Mori NLX2000/500 lathes.

Responsibilities

Produce aerospace parts in a timely manner according to blueprints, sketches, and work orders, with minimal supervision.
Inspect and measure parts using general measuring devices, including micrometers and calipers, and make machine offset adjustments.
Operate a lathe used to make or maintain jigs, fixtures, or gauges.
Plan and perform difficult lathe operations requiring complicated setups or a high degree of accuracy.
Determine proper feeds, speeds, tooling, and operation sequence using precision measuring instruments.
Maintain a workable supply of perishable tools required for machinery operation, as well as supply charts of Q1 functions.
Provide additional operational support to the Production team.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
