About The Position

Lawrence Equipment Inc. is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to set up and operate a HAAS TL‑3 CNC lathe. The machinist will be responsible for producing precision components to print, maintaining tight tolerances, and ensuring efficient, safe operation of the machine.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a CNC lathe machinist in a production or job‑shop environment.
  • Hands‑on experience operating HAAS or comparable CNC lathes (experience with the HAAS TL‑3 is strongly preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings/blueprints, including GD&T.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of machining practices, cutting tools, speeds/feeds, and materials (e.g., steels, stainless, aluminum).
  • Ability to perform basic CNC program edits and adjust offsets at the machine.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with HAAS TL‑series lathes, especially TL‑3.
  • Experience with HAAS or Fanuc Controls
  • Background in high‑mix/low‑volume production or custom job‑shop work.
  • Experience with setup reduction or lean manufacturing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate a HAAS TL‑3 CNC lathe to machine parts to specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders, including GD&T symbols.
  • Load, align, and secure raw materials and tooling; select appropriate tools, speeds, and feeds.
  • Perform basic programming and editing at the control (HAAS controls), including offsets and tool changes.
  • Verify dimensions of finished workpieces using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Monitor machine operation and part quality; make adjustments to maintain tolerances and surface finish.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and inspection to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Document production data, including job travelers, inspection results, and nonconformances as required.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and quality personnel regarding part issues or process improvements.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to lockout/tagout and machine guarding standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and support continuous improvement activities (e.g., 5S, lean initiatives).
