About The Position

QVI is seeking a skilled CNC Lathe set-up operator to join our operations team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, programming and operating CNC lathes to produce precision components according to specifications with tight tolerances. This is considered a senior level position but will train the right person with the right skills, aptitude, and commitment. As an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), QVI aligns its machine shop workload directly with our corporate manufacturing pipeline, ensuring long-term organizational stability and business continuity. Requirements

  • Minimum 5-10+ years of experience operating CNC lathes in a precision machining environment
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and GD&T
  • Strong understanding of G-code and CNC programming fundamentals (experience with e.g., Fanuc)
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments accurately
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be reliable
  • Ability independently lift and carry items weighing up to 30 lbs., occasional lifting to 70 lbs.
  • Ability for frequent, firm, and steady hand grip with tools requiring torque to tighten machine parts, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability and willingness to wear any required Personal Protective Equipment, which may include Safety glasses, ear plugs, safety shoes, head protection, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC lathe(s), ensuring all equipment is functioning properly.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining operations.
  • Utilize calipers and other measuring tools to ensure accuracy of dimensions and tolerances.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operation team members to achieve quality standards and production efficiency.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment according to our 6S policies.
  • Play a pivotal role in our prototype designs with our critical optical components, including mechanical input.
