Schafer Industries is currently seeking a CNC Hob Machinist for its Schafer Gear Works operation in Roscoe, Illinois. We currently offer walk-in interviews and a $1,000 sign on bonus. Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts. Responsible for solving machine and part problems, maintains a high productivity rate and constantly strives to improve productivity.

Requirements

  • Requires physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position, including the ability to walk, stand, lift, carry up to 50 pounds, push, kneel, bend, stoop, reach over and under waist level, twist for extended periods of time on cement or other hard surfaces, etc.
  • Demonstrates the verbal and written communication skills necessary to complete forms and take messages in a legible, accurate manner.
  • Two plus years of experience ideal.
  • Must be able to communicate in English.
  • Ability to use a computer.

Responsibilities

  • Operate assigned machinery to fabricate parts to the required specifications by reading work orders and specification sheets, properly powering up and down the machine, loading and unloading parts, ensuring proper tooling, creating and sizing jaws, changing chucking devices, recognizing insert and tool geometry, and making offset adjustments for size.
  • Ensures all parts are to the required specifications by maintaining and continuously improving quality, reading blueprints and specifications, verifying conformance, complying with work instructions, following ISO and Schafer procedures, and completing quality certification requirements.
  • Ensure the operational effectiveness of all assigned equipment by conducting preventative maintenance, observing machine operations to detect malfunctions, and conferring with engineers and production personnel to resolve machining problems.
  • Responsible for supporting the Schafer Business Process by maintaining and improving productivity, measuring and marking dimensions, looking at tool life and new tooling, reducing downtime of machine setups, and maintaining the 6S program.
  • Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the company by channeling problems to the appropriate person, supporting Schafer policies, reporting issues to the supervisor, providing input on quality improvements, resolving problems, performing other job-related duties, helping evaluate job applicants, passing along vital information for subsequent shifts, and training new personnel and assisting in other areas as needed.
