The CNA/Certified Nursing Assistant provides care to Sisters, Friars, and a Brother living at the facility, including residents in skilled nursing and memory care. Residents may use either their religious name or birth name, and do not wear identification, so learning and respecting their chosen names is an important part of providing care. Patient populations include residents with CHF, hypertension, diabetes, prior strokes, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and total-care needs. The role includes assisting with activities of daily living, bathing, call lights, Foley catheter care and emptying Foley bags, and feeding and dining-room assistance. Charting is by exception. CNAs are trained on all units and are expected to float throughout the building. Orientation is generally planned for one week in memory care and one week in skilled nursing, though it may be shortened depending on the candidate. The schedule consists of rotating eight-hour shifts: 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m., or 10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m. The facility aims to follow the rotating schedule but may adjust it for PTO or FMLA needs and asks for flexibility. Weekend work is every other weekend; holiday work is required if there is a need. Scrubs may be any solid color.
