About The Position

The Palmettos of Garden City is seeking a Caregiver / Certified Nursing Assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. The role assists residents with activities of daily living and personal care, supports their comfort, and helps maintain a safe and clean environment for an assigned group of residents.

The position includes following assigned procedures, administering medications according to physician orders, helping with admissions, transfers, and discharges, and providing post-mortem care. Care also includes morning and evening personal-care routines and general room care.

Requirements

• Sensitivity to patients’ physical and psychosocial needs.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to chart accurately in the Patient Care Record or a similar form.
• Pleasant and cheerful personality.
• Tactful and courteous approach with patients and visitors.
• Treat patient information as confidential.
• Adhere to the dress code specified by center policy.

Responsibilities

• Understand and practice universal precautions with all patients.
• Complete tasks and procedures included in assignments, or report incomplete tasks to the charge nurse.
• Administer medications according to physician orders.
• Assist in preparing for patient admissions.
• Assist with and accompany patients during admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
• Provide post-mortem care.
• Provide morning care, including personal hygiene, dressing, linen changes, room straightening, and other general care as needed.
• Provide evening care, including hygiene, skin care, linen freshening, room straightening, and other general care as needed.
• Attend assigned in-service programs to learn procedures, develop skills, and meet state requirements.
