About The Position
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides essential direct and indirect nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, following established policies and procedures. The role supports patient-centered care on the 5th Floor Acute Care Neuro Trauma Unit at St. Anthony Hospital, a 36-bed unit specializing in neuro, trauma, and orthopedics and serving patients across age groups, usually age 16 and older. The unit is the main service line for patients requiring Level I Trauma Center care and may also care for general medical-surgical overflow patients. The CNA performs patient care tasks, supports nursing staff, and contributes to a collaborative team environment. The position calls for a strong work ethic, compassion, effective teamwork, and a commitment to practicing at the top of the CNA’s license. The role also offers pathways for professional development and career advancement.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Graduate of a Nursing Assistant Program.
- State-registered CNA license.
Nice To Haves
- Six months of previous CNA or healthcare experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient comfort and hygiene measures, preventative skin care, safety measures, transport, and support for nutritional and elimination needs.
- Promptly answer call lights and respond to patient needs.
- Accurately and promptly report patient status changes and needs to the Registered Nurse.
- Document vital signs, input and output, nutritional intake, personal hygiene, weights, and other care performed; maintain thorough and confidential patient charts and records.
- Assist with safe and appropriate delegated patient care tasks under the nurse’s direct supervision.
- Provide person-centered care with sensitivity and respect for the human experience, collaborating with other team members.
- Communicate patient-related hazards or errors to the health care team.
