Performs highly skilled repair work and leads the work of others in the inspection, repairing, rebuilding and assembly of equipment (large power plant equipment including turbine rotors & stationary components, motors, pumps and fans) sent to the Central Machine Shop and perform the same at other places of temporary assignment. This role involves demonstrating advanced level proficiency plus unique knowledge that allows effective participation in recommended courses of action, and the achievement of satisfactory solutions to advanced, complex technical problems. The position also involves leading, facilitating, and coordinating work activities within work groups, teams, departments, or other corporate entities as necessary, and may assume the role of project manager for assigned tasks. It requires reviewing the planned work of others, organizing and leading special projects and task forces, and providing leadership for special task force efforts and studies while working in team-oriented groups across AEP. Superior problem-solving skills in the area of specialization are expected, along with advanced abilities and aptitude for creativity and innovation, while encouraging and developing the innovation of others. The role requires projecting credibility and competence on technical issues and having highly developed presentation skills. It also involves promoting and endeavoring to create a work environment where everyone understands and benefits from the value of unique and combined skills and knowledge of each team member. Technical decisions are made based on calculated risks with little or no management review. The individual understands how technical strategies and decisions impact the relationship with customers and makes decisions where differences of opinion exist.
