About The Position

Performs highly skilled repair work and leads the work of others in the inspection, repairing, rebuilding and assembly of equipment (large power plant equipment including turbine rotors & stationary components, motors, pumps and fans) sent to the Central Machine Shop and perform the same at other places of temporary assignment. This role involves demonstrating advanced level proficiency plus unique knowledge that allows effective participation in recommended courses of action, and the achievement of satisfactory solutions to advanced, complex technical problems. The position also involves leading, facilitating, and coordinating work activities within work groups, teams, departments, or other corporate entities as necessary, and may assume the role of project manager for assigned tasks. It requires reviewing the planned work of others, organizing and leading special projects and task forces, and providing leadership for special task force efforts and studies while working in team-oriented groups across AEP. Superior problem-solving skills in the area of specialization are expected, along with advanced abilities and aptitude for creativity and innovation, while encouraging and developing the innovation of others. The role requires projecting credibility and competence on technical issues and having highly developed presentation skills. It also involves promoting and endeavoring to create a work environment where everyone understands and benefits from the value of unique and combined skills and knowledge of each team member. Technical decisions are made based on calculated risks with little or no management review. The individual understands how technical strategies and decisions impact the relationship with customers and makes decisions where differences of opinion exist.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/ Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields, with a minimum of 4 years of related utility industry work experience, OR High school diploma or GED, with a minimum of 6 years of related utility industry work experience, including experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge.
  • Meets expectations of the Technician level.
  • Valid Drivers license
  • Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/ Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields, with a minimum of 6 years of related utility industry work experience, OR High school diploma or GED, with a minimum of 8 years of related utility industry work experience, including experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge.
  • Meets expectations of a Technician Senior level.
  • Valid Drivers license

Responsibilities

  • Performs highly skilled repair work and leads the work of others in the inspection, repairing, rebuilding and assembly of equipment (large power plant equipment including turbine rotors & stationary components, motors, pumps and fans) sent to the Central Machine Shop and perform the same at other places of temporary assignment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to understand and perform technical functions required in relevant area of assignment.
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to use technical and computer tools to perform assignments in most cost-effective method possible.
  • Ensures compliance with standards, codes, regulations, practices, and procedures in area of assignment.
  • Develops and may assist in the delivery of training to other employees and sections on employee's area of expertise.
  • May assist in leading the work activities within work group, team, department or other corporate entity as necessary to perform all routine engineering technical assignments.
  • Prepares cost estimates for non-routine work, i.e. special projects.
  • Uses records to plan future work.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts meetings.
  • May plan work and suggests work plans of others to complete non-routine work within time constraints.
  • May coordinate work with suppliers and internal or external customers.
  • Reviews trends of material and equipment performance and initiate necessary corrective action.
