Cloud and IT Systems Administrator

International House at UC Berkeley•Berkeley, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Reporting to the Event Services and Technology Director, the Cloud and IT Systems Administrator is the primary technical owner of the platforms used by International House. This hands-on role administers cloud and on-premises systems, builds automation to reduce manual work, and leads technical projects that modernize organizational and building operations. The position oversees an interconnected system estate and works with teams across Admissions and Financial Aid, Accounting, Housing Operations, Dining, Facilities, Events, and Human Resources, as well as UC Berkeley counterparts and external vendors. The administrator owns system administration and support, automation and integrations, technical project delivery, vendor and license management, and knowledge sharing. The role provides day-to-day technical guidance to student workers and junior technical staff. It requires on-site presence and occasional work outside standard business hours during move-in, move-out, system cutovers, and incidents, as well as periodic physical work accessing building technology equipment.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of hands-on systems administration in a cloud-first environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated administration of Microsoft 365 and a cloud identity platform, including single sign-on and access governance.
  • Demonstrated experience building automation and integrations, such as with Power Automate, REST APIs, webhooks, or comparable tools.
  • Working knowledge of relational data concepts and ability to read, query, and reason about business-system data.
  • Evidence of owning a technical project end to end, including coordination responsibilities.
  • Clear written communication, including the ability to write for nontechnical audiences and maintain durable documentation.
  • Sound judgment about access, privacy, and data protection, with the discipline to apply least privilege by default.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with StarRez, Blackbaud, Verkada, Atrium, Qualtrics, Freshservice, or comparable residential, security, or fundraising platforms.
  • Experience with payment platforms and their integrations, such as Stripe, TouchNet, or a campus equivalent.
  • Experience in higher education, student housing, hospitality, or a nonprofit with a small technical team and a wide system estate.
  • Experience building reports in Power BI or a comparable tool.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring student employees.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the Microsoft 365 tenant and identity estate, including licensing, group and role management, single sign-on, conditional access, onboarding, and offboarding.
  • Administer StarRez, including account and operator provisioning, permissions, point-of-sale troubleshooting, reporting, and payment integrations.
  • Administer Blackbaud Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge, including single sign-on, SKY API governance, workflow oversight, and notification management.
  • Own administration and governance of the wider platform estate, including Freshservice, Verkada, Atrium, Infor, Quadient, Parcel Pending, Qualtrics, Adobe, Adobe Sign, Asana, Expensify, Amazon Business, OptiSigns, Clerk Chat, Meta Business, Apple Business Manager, and NAVEX.
  • Own the Freshservice IT service desk queue, including triage, assignment, resolution, escalation, and queue-health reporting.
  • Manage certificates, API keys, service accounts, and storage tokens through a defined lifecycle, including Azure Blob storage and shared access tokens.
  • Design, build, and maintain Power Automate workflows, including high-volume operational runs and flows supporting admissions, finance, and housing.
  • Build and maintain API-driven integrations across StarRez, Quadient, Verkada, Qualtrics, Atrium, Infor, and finance platforms.
  • Drive automation of employee lifecycle, procurement, and recurring operational processes, reducing reliance on manual reminders.
  • Instrument integrations so failures are detected through monitoring.
  • Lead technical initiatives from scoping through handover, including residence security deployments, digital signage, archival storage redesign, internal podcast and media infrastructure, and network projects with UC Berkeley and external vendors.
  • Lead modernization of cloud and on-premises systems, including server and network infrastructure refreshes.
  • Write and maintain documentation, runbooks, and exported configuration so others can operate systems.
  • Manage technical vendor relationships, renewals, license counts, support escalations, and contract-relevant technical requirements.
  • Review license usage and recommend cost reductions that do not reduce service.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of systems, owners, renewal dates, and dependencies.
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance to student workers and junior technical staff and review their work.
  • Share knowledge so that systems are not dependent on a single person.
  • Perform other duties as required.
