About The Position

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a highly motivated Clinician/Clinician Fellow to join our 6 West Ortho/Trauma Unit. This is a dayshift position that will include 2 weekend shifts per month, with no holidays required. The title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience. Those with 2 years of experience and/or those without their BSN will be brought in at the Clinician Fellow title and pay range. The Clinician is a nurse leader responsible for fostering a culture of excellence and patient care, serving as a role model for professional nursing practice. Under the general direction of the Unit Director or other department manager, the Clinician will complete employee evaluations, conduct staff selection and hiring, and manage the daily performance of direct reports. They will provide service-based education and clinical expertise, including orientation, training, consultation, and coordination of clinical activities. Additionally, the Clinician may be responsible for delivering nursing care during a shift when needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience for a Clinician title.
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience for a Clinician Fellow title.
  • BS/BSN required. If BS degree not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.
  • If no BSN at time of hire, must be enrolled in a program within one year of hire/transfer date and completed within three years of enrollment.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Ensures patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.
  • Serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying patient and staff-focused opportunities for improvement and leading the change process.
  • Identifies, educates, and supports the psychological and learning needs of staff during change and transition.
  • Practices participatory leadership and is an active member of shared leadership at the unit, facility, or system level.
  • Assumes formal leadership responsibilities for one or more of the following: quality improvement, evidence-based practice, GN, or new hire onboarding.
  • Completes and/or assists with staff performance evaluations for direct reports as applicable.
