About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a qualified and experienced Clinical Social Worker for the Young Adult Services (YAS) team at the Southeastern Mental Health Authority (SMHA) in Norwich, CT. This is a full-time, 40-hour position on the 1st shift, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. The Young Adult Program supports individuals aged 18 to 25 transitioning into the adult mental health system, helping them develop critical skills for adulthood. The multidisciplinary team offers comprehensive services including therapy, case management, life skills development, vocational and educational support, medication monitoring, community integration, and coordination of care. DMHAS's mission is to promote the health and wellness of individuals with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of services. SMHA provides high-quality behavioral health services to adults 18 and older in New London County and surrounding towns, focusing on recovery, trauma-informed care, and cultural sensitivity.

Requirements

Licensure as a clinical social worker in the State of Connecticut.
Must possess and retain a license to practice clinical social work pursuant to Sec. 20-195 (m-z) of the Connecticut General Statutes.
Must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a-7b(f).

Knowledge of sign language and communication ability with the deaf and hearing impaired in certain designated positions.
Ability in Spanish oral and written communication in certain designated positions.

Responsibilities

Conducts psychosocial assessments considering developmental, social, cultural, substance use, psychological, environmental, and medical factors.
Develops treatment plans with measurable objectives.
Provides clinical services including triage, crisis intervention, and individual, group, or family therapy.
Advocates for clients by coordinating and developing networks of social and clinical services.
Monitors treatment effectiveness, maintains clinical documentation, and completes required reports.
Collaborates with behavioral health professionals to improve service delivery.
Serves as a case manager and advocate for clients receiving or needing behavioral health care services.
Manages a caseload of consumer behavioral healthcare insurance complaints concerning coverage and/or payment.
Reviews and assesses medical records, including psychological assessments and treatment plans, to determine appropriate treatment and insurance benefit eligibility.
Participates in insurance appeal hearings and serves as a clinical expert.
Provides clinical supervision to Licensed Master Social Workers.
Provides forensic evaluations and court testimony as required.
Maintains social work treatment and standards.
May participate in research projects.
