About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Nurse Clinical Instructor to join their team at Whiting Forensic Hospital (WFH) in Middletown, CT. This is a full-time, 40-hour position on the 1st Shift (Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm), with occasional rotation to off-shifts as needed to support educational needs. DMHAS is a healthcare agency focused on promoting the health and wellness of individuals with behavioral health needs. Whiting Forensic Hospital provides inpatient services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system.

Requirements

Three (3) years of experience in hospital or institutional nursing as a Registered Nurse.
Must possess and retain a license as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut OR hold a Multistate or Compact Registered Nurse license.

Nice To Haves

A Bachelor's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
Master’s degree in nursing education
Experience in a teaching/training role with experience in curriculum development

Responsibilities

In collaboration with interdisciplinary staff members, participates in assessment of educational needs and requirements of staff and individuals by determining areas of deficiencies and considering government regulations.
Understands and applies the process of adult learning theory to educational programs.
Participates in development and revising of curricula.
Conducts research to obtain the most recent information about identified topics with the use of evidence-based practice.
Delivers curricula to targeted groups including instruction in theory and provision of clinical experience.
Evaluates effectiveness of curricula through analyses of class participation, feedback, and written tests.
Participates in workshops designed for career advancement of nursing staff.
Instructs staff of all levels in orientation and other programs.
Supervises learning experiences of staff in programs and on patient-care units.
Acts as a role model to nursing and health care staff by demonstrating and teaching professional behaviors.
Participates in approved continuing education programs to enhance professional competence and shares this information with other staff members.
Prepares and submits reports as required.
Maintains records of individuals participating in educational programs.
Protects human and civil rights of individuals and staff.
May participate on committees and in recruitment processes.
Performs related duties as required.
