The State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a Head Nurse to join the Southeastern Mental Health Authority (SMHA) and support high-quality, recovery-oriented behavioral health services. In this leadership role, you will provide licensed nursing oversight, clinical coordination, and guidance for our Brief Care Program, which provides essential nursing services across all SMHA Community Programs. This position is critical to ensuring the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care within a trauma-informed, culturally responsive environment. DMHAS is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve. SMHA is a community mental health agency operated by DMHAS. Its primary goal is to provide high quality behavioral health services to those in our community with mental health and substance use disorders who are 18 years or older and reside in New London County and its surrounding towns. Services, which include case management, outpatient behavioral health, crisis intervention, respite care, and forensic services, are recovery oriented and offered in a trauma informed and culturally sensitive manner. We support individuals to identify and achieve their own goals in recovery, fostering independence, dignity, and ability. The Brief Care Program is a 15-bed, subacute residential program for individuals who need stabilization but do not require psychiatric hospitalization. It also serves as a step-down option following an inpatient stay. The program is voluntary and supported by a full multidisciplinary team, including an APRN, nurses, social workers, a certified addiction counselor, and mental health workers. Staff are on site 24/7, and weekly treatment team meetings focus on progress, barriers, and discharge planning. Community support providers and family members are encouraged to participate for continuity of care. Clients are connected to community programs during their stay to ensure ongoing support after discharge.
