About The Position

The GI Oncology Clinical Research team, located within the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania and comprised of faculty in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) under direct supervision, to assist with recruitment to and maintenance of biospecimen based GI cancer repositories. These repositories are critical for supporting translational and clinical research related activities of the GI oncology group. Duties include identifying patients appropriate for participation, consenting patients for database/repository participation, overseeing collection and processing of blood and tissue specimens, managing the biorepositories, including associated databases, compiling data and assisting with writing of various research documents, and maintaining metrics of collection to these repositories. All assigned duties will be done with oversight from full-time research staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Screen patient charts, contact potential patients for registry/biobank participation, consent patients for registry/biobank participation
  • Process patient specimens, distribute specimens to various campus locations
  • Organize patient specimens within storage repositories, ship patient specimens for planned translational research assays
  • Maintain databases of patient specimens with associated basic clinical information
  • Compiling of data, assistance in writing standard operating procedures, protocols and manuscripts
  • Ordering and stocking supplies, maintaining equipment
  • Educate patients and family members
  • Maintain metrics of patient enrollment/participation in biospecimen registries
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
