About The Position

As a Clinical Quality Improvement Consultant, you’ll play a key role in advancing safe, timely, effective, efficient, and patient-centered care across MD Anderson. You’ll bring clinical and quality improvement expertise to quality and safety councils, programs, and projects while partnering with leaders and multidisciplinary teams to identify performance gaps, improve clinical processes, and drive measurable outcomes at one of the world’s leading cancer centers. This is an opportunity to work across the organization on complex improvement initiatives where your expertise can influence how care is delivered. You’ll lead and facilitate interdisciplinary teams, assess current-state clinical workflows, identify improvement opportunities, establish meaningful performance measures, and develop evidence-based solutions. You’ll apply Quality Improvement methodologies and tools—including process mapping, Pareto charts, cause-and-effect diagrams, control charts, and basic statistical analysis—to turn clinical data into actionable insights. You’ll also take ownership of projects from definition through implementation and sustainability. You’ll develop project aims, milestones, workplans, timelines, data collection plans, and deliverables; analyze baseline and post-intervention results; monitor outcomes at 30, 60, and 90 days; and track the financial and ROI impact of improvement efforts. You’ll collaborate closely with Clinical Leaders, Quality and Safety professionals, Healthcare Systems Engineers, and other stakeholders to define current and future-state processes and ensure improvements are practical, measurable, and sustainable. Beyond project leadership, you’ll have the opportunity to serve as a change agent and resource for teams across the organization. You’ll provide education and training on quality tools, team facilitation, creative problem-solving, and improvement strategies while helping teams understand and adopt new ways of working. You’ll also analyze clinical quality measures aligned with institutional quality and patient safety priorities and escalate high-risk issues and trends for resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare or related field
  • 4 years of experience in healthcare or related field
  • RN – Registered Nurse - State Licensure OR Licensure, registration, or certification in a medical or healthcare discipline upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes Quality Improvement models, methodologies and tools to improve the quality of clinical care.
  • Performs analysis of current state clinical work structure, processes and performance deltas to determine focus for improvement project.
  • Identifies project measures using evidenced based best practices for benchmarking and to establish targets.
  • Use quality tools such as frequency distributions, basic statistics, cause-and-effect diagrams, Pareto charts, process flow charts, check sheets, and control charts
  • Demonstrates the ability to interpret and apply clinical data (e.g., LOS, readmissions, HAI rates, mortality indices, Patient Experience) to identify performance gaps, and recommend evidence-based solutions.
  • Guides performance improvements to align with principles of high reliability.
  • Consults and collaborates with Clinical Leaders, Quality/Safety Staff and Healthcare Systems Engineers to facilitate, coach, lead interdisciplinary teams with performance improvement projects.
  • Provides effective project management with project definition inclusive of: problem quantification, aim, measures, timeline and deliverables
  • Baseline and post intervention data graphically displayed
  • Meets project deliverables in accordance with target timelines.
  • Work with multidisciplinary stakeholders to define current state processes
  • Collaborate with these stakeholders to develop future state
  • Design and execute on improvement plans
  • Develop performance metrics, standards and methods to establish improvement success
  • Ensure metrics are reachable, practical and, when needed, approved by organizational leadership
  • Facilitate the collection of metric data from workflows and projects by utilizing sound methodology
  • Develop data collection plans in collaboration with project stakeholders
  • Analyze data using appropriate statistical and qualitative methods
  • Escalate high-risk issues and trends to appropriate party for resolution
  • Monitors for improvement sustainability utilizing outcome and process measures; 30, 60, 90 days post project summary
  • Documents project progression and summary results via Department/Division Project tracking venues.
  • Capture financial and ROI savings for project impacts
  • Provide educational content and delivery of training in quality tools and strategies
  • Provide training in meeting/team facilitation, group process, creative problem solving.
  • Act as a change agent for the organization and ensure that process improvement activity is being communicated, understood, and supported
  • Maintain professional development by expanding knowledge base of methodologies and techniques
