About The Position

The Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases' Petersen HIV Clinic provides comprehensive healthcare and support services to people with or at risk for HIV. The Clinical Pharmacist will work as a vital member of a multidisciplinary team consisting of ID physicians and members of the Ryan White program to provide excellent levels of care for patients, including treatment adherence services. While this is an extended temporary employment position that is set to end 24 months after the date of hire, around late September or early October 2028, there is the possibility for it to transition to permanent employment. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Requirements

Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy, or currently licensed in another state and eligible for licensure in the State of Arizona with the requirement to obtain licensure by the date of hire.
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
Strong understanding of HIV pharmacy services.
Ability to travel to different clinic sites.
Possess a high level of organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, and track both long- and short-term projects while performing day-to-day tasks.
Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively work with a multidisciplinary team to solve problems or improve operations.
Demonstrate personal responsibility, respect for self and others, innovation through teamwork.

Nice To Haves

Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY2 with specialization in ambulatory care, infectious diseases, internal medicine, or equivalent work experience.
Board certification or Certified Pharmacist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine.
Bilingual English/Spanish.
Experience with Quality Improvement practices.
Experience working in a clinical/hospital setting or with populations who are at high risk for HIV/AIDS or other disease states.
Completion of three (3) years of clinical pharmacy experience providing comprehensive medication management services in an ambulatory care/internal medicine/infectious diseases setting within the last three (3) years.
Experience with HIV/AIDS medications and treatment.

Responsibilities

Evaluates medication orders for contraindications; drug-drug interactions; drug-food interactions; allergies and appropriateness of drug, dose, frequency and route.
Formulate patients’ treatment plans and initiate, modify, and continue appropriate drug therapy in accordance with HIV standards of practice or in consultation with the primary physicians.
Initiate requests for appropriate laboratory and other diagnostic studies as needed for monitoring drug therapy.
Provide treatment adherence counseling and support for patients in the HIV Treatment Adherence Program.
Assists patient and multidisciplinary team with solving medication issues (i.e., prior authorization, patient assistance programs, and financial support programs).
Act as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents in clinic.
Provides educational information for patients and families, program staff, and other patient care professionals. This may be in the form of a continuing education presentation or other department-wide communication.
