About The Position

The Clinical Pastoral Education Teaching Supervisor, a member of the Spiritual Health Care Team at Providence Health Care, is accountable to the Director, Spirituality & Pastoral Care. Within the framework of a Catholic Health care organization and in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values and Ethical Framework, the Supervisor coordinates a Clinical Pastoral Education (C.P.E.) program, provides educational/learning opportunities for staff, physicians and volunteers on matters of spirituality and pastoral care, and performs direct service clinical spiritual care.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree with relevant theological/spiritual studies from a recognized institution.
  • Five (5) years' experience as a Teaching Supervisor (or commensurate experience).
  • Current certification as a Teaching Supervisor by the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC).
  • Current membership in good standing in C.A.S.C.
  • Current endorsement by and a member in good standing with a recognized religious or faith group.
  • Good understanding of the Roman Catholic moral teaching and ethical framework.
  • Demonstrated spiritual maturity and integrity.
  • Approaches students and others in a person-centered manner with insight, discernment, and flexibility.
  • Responsive to the need for appropriate spiritual care that is provided with sensitivity, openness and respect within the context of a multi-cultural, multi-faith milieu, which includes diverse expressions of spirituality
  • Skillfully provides and seeks professional consultation with spiritual care colleagues and/or other professionals.
  • Manages stress in the role of teacher, mentor as well as in the role of direct care provider.
  • Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Presents excellent organizational skills, demonstrating an affinity for teaching.
  • Reveals superior skills in planning and coordinating.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with Team/Program Leaders.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements and evaluates a C.P.E. program in accordance with the standards established by the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (C.A.S.C.).
  • Establishes program/course approval and site accreditation with C.A.S.C.
  • Establishes and maintains eligibility for academic course credit at the Graduate Program level through the Vancouver School of Theology.
  • Collaborates with the Professional Practice Leader/Site Coordinators in screening, placing, monitoring and evaluating C.P.E. students at P.H.C. sites.
  • Collaborates with C.P.E. Supervisors from other organizations to facilitate a coordinated effort in pastoral education for the region.
  • Collaborates in the development of budget to complement strategic directions within existing fiscal restraints and uses best utilization methods to thoroughly monitor and adhere to allocated budget.
  • Is responsible for direct patient/resident care by providing pastoral/spiritual care for assigned unit(s).
  • Assists Professional Practice Leader/Site Coordinators to develop and coordinate work plans for Pastoral Care Services staff to ensure appropriate, on-going professional development and skills acquisition.
  • Collaborates with Professional Practice Leader/Site Coordinators to develop and conduct workshops and courses on spiritual and pastoral care for P.H.C. staff, physicians and volunteers.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates spiritual care/pastoral care courses in the community in conjunction with programs within PHC.
  • Participates in the overview of pastoral care services throughout Providence Health Care.
  • Initiates/participates in research related to spiritual/pastoral care.
  • Participates in committees as designated, including internal and external professional responsibilities.
