About The Position

Highland Hospital is seeking a per diem Clinical Laboratory Technologist. The technologist picks up open shifts as needed; shifts and hours vary according to the month and departmental needs. The role involves timely and accurate test analysis using moderately complex methods and/or instrumentation. Patient-sample results are often interpretive. The technologist is responsible for instrument maintenance and operation, daily quality control, and adherence to laboratory policies.

Requirements

• Must meet New York State Department of Health requirements for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
• New York State license or permit for Clinical Laboratory Technologist, as determined by regulatory authorities.
• Ability to perform laboratory processes.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze patient, proficiency, and quality-control samples using moderately complex instrumentation or methodology.
• Report patient, proficiency, and quality-control results using computer and/or instrument interfaces.
• Operate laboratory and computer equipment in two core areas.
• Perform routine testing operations, equipment operational checks and calibrations, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and remedial maintenance.
• Receive, identify, log, label, process, and result laboratory specimens according to established and documented procedures.
• Calculate and record results, including quality-control specimens, and refer questionable or inconsistent values to a supervisor.
• Support quality-control programs by performing determinations, recording data, checking results, and taking and documenting corrective action; report discrepancies to the technical specialist, CLT tech II, or supervisor.
• Refer persistent or difficult problems to the section head or in-charge technologist.
• Telephone STAT and/or critical tests and critical values as required by laboratory policy and procedure.
