About The Position

Lake Butler Hospital is a critical access hospital in North Florida providing 24-hour emergency services, inpatient hospitalization, swing bed program, rehabilitation services, outpatient laboratory, and outpatient radiology (X-ray, ultrasound, and CT scan) services to Union County and the surrounding counties. We are seeking a knowledgeable Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join our team!

Requirements

  • Associate of Science with licensure as a Medical Lab Technologist.
  • 2-4 years in clinical lab environment.
  • Able to learn and retain quickly and precisely, with attention to detail.
  • Able to use laboratory equipment, software, is knowledgeable and self-directed.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory information and practices.
  • Extensive knowledge base attained by experience and during prior employment.
  • Read, write, and speaks to communicate effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science preferred.
  • Greater than 5 years in a clinical lab environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide range of medical laboratory procedures requiring technical knowledge and skill, at the request of authorized, licensed providers.
  • Operates laboratory analyzers to provide critical data for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease.
  • Makes independent judgement decisions in the reporting of normal and abnormal test results.
  • Performs and analyzes quality control data.
  • Instructs and mentors fellow employees.
  • Interacts with nursing and health care practitioners.
  • Provides excellent customer service.
  • Obtains and processes blood and/or other specimens from geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
  • Logs, accessions, centrifuges, aliquots, and distributes samples to designated areas of the laboratory.
  • Makes determinations as to acceptability of samples and completes appropriate specimen rejection forms when necessary.
  • Performs clerical duties such as filing, billing, charge reconciliation, and report distribution.
  • Answers phones and aids hospital staff, clients, and all patients.
  • Maintains accuracy of all reports, records, and maintains test results.
  • Completes test request forms and enters all charge information into the hospital and reference laboratory information systems.
  • Maintains accurate records of all specimens received or sent out of the laboratory.
  • Performs as a medical technologist in areas of licensure by testing acceptable specimens to provide accurate and timely results.
  • Understands all instrument functions, calibrations, and quality control needs, as well as troubleshooting.
  • Identifies and confirms abnormal test results.
  • Able to solve problems, work independently, and prioritize/organize workflow.
  • Assists in developing, maintaining, and modifying procedures and applications.
  • Practices universal precautions and makes proper use of personal protective equipment, while maintaining a clean work area.
