About The Position

This is a contingent position with varying hours based on site needs, requiring weekend rotation. The role involves performing accurate and timely processing, testing, and resulting of laboratory samples. Key responsibilities include preventive maintenance, quality control, and customer service. The technician will perform routine and complex technical procedures within the laboratory information system, which may encompass phlebotomy, specimen collection, processing, reporting, and storage. They will also be responsible for preventive maintenance, supply upkeep, and quality control with proper documentation and communication. The position requires adherence to applicable laws and regulations, maintaining knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures, and protocols, and reviewing/acknowledging procedures as needed. Service excellence and quality patient care are paramount, involving adapting communication styles, resolving client concerns, basic troubleshooting, and efficiently managing interruptions in a dynamic environment. Maintaining a safe environment, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and reporting hazardous situations, is also essential. The role includes assisting in process development and improvement, participating in quality assurance, continuing education, and department meetings.

Requirements

Associate’s degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution OR a high school graduate or equivalent and have successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least a duration of 50 weeks and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).

Responsibilities

Maintains a safe environment, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and reporting spills and hazardous situations immediately.
Follows established guidelines for disclosure of patient information.
Assists in process development/improvement within the department including participating in quality assurance, continuing education programs, and department meetings.
