This position performs waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, responsibilities listed under CFR § 493.1425 and § 493.1495. The individual must possess a degree of skill commensurate with their education, training, experience, and technical abilities. Responsibilities include adhering to laboratory procedures for test collection, processing, analysis, and reporting; following quality control policies and procedures; identifying and correcting or reporting problems affecting test performance; performing a wide variety of laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods in various disciplines; performing and documenting instrument maintenance; reviewing the accuracy of patient results; recognizing age-specific differences in expected results; ensuring proficiency testing samples are handled correctly and collaboration is prohibited before reporting; potentially performing venipuncture or capillary puncture; assisting in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures; adhering to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources; potentially acting as Lead Tech in the absence of a supervisor; and may be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POCT. Other tasks may be assigned by the department manager/director.
