This position is accountable for performing clinical laboratory testing, following all applicable policies and procedures. The Clinical Lab Scientist I performs moderate to highly complex clinical tests, prepares reagents, oversees reagent preparation, tests new reagents, determines specimen acceptability, calculates results, enters results accurately, checks computer review reports, adheres to analytical schedules, evaluates the acceptability of analyses, recognizes and responds to critical values, performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory equipment, evaluates instrument performance, performs linearity, accuracy, and precision checks, performs Quality Control and calibrations, selects and evaluates control materials, initiates corrective action, performs and records proficiency testing, detects and corrects technical and operational problems, notifies supervisors, contacts manufacturer or field service support if necessary, ensures accurate tracking and labeling of reagents and supplies, maintains a safe and neat work area, demonstrates effective communication, participates in staff and Quality Improvement meetings, takes on additional business-related responsibilities or projects, follows all required procedures for safety, environmental, and infection control, collects and disposes of waste properly, maintains confidentiality, provides direct supervision to unlicensed staff, trains staff, supports training programs, maintains professional growth and development through continuing education, answers phones, and complies with all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices. Required to use personal protective equipment. Other duties as assigned.
