This position is accountable for performing clinical laboratory testing, following all applicable policies and procedures. The Clinical Lab Scientist I independently performs moderate to highly complex clinical tests, prepares reagents, tests new reagents, determines specimen acceptability, enters results accurately, and monitors computer review reports. They adhere to analytical schedules, evaluate analyses, recognize and respond to critical values, and perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory equipment. The role involves performing Quality Control, selecting and evaluating control materials, initiating corrective action when systems do not perform as expected, and accurately performing and recording proficiency testing. The position requires demonstrating the ability to detect and correct technical and operational problems, notifying supervisors, and contacting support if necessary. Ensuring accurate tracking and labeling of reagents and supplies, maintaining a safe and neat work area, and demonstrating effective communication are also key responsibilities. The role includes active participation in staff and Quality Improvement meetings, taking on additional business-related responsibilities or projects as delegated, and adhering to all safety, environmental, and infection control policies. This includes proper waste disposal, maintaining confidentiality, providing supervision and training to unlicensed staff, supporting training programs, and maintaining professional growth through continuing education to meet state licensure requirements. Other duties include answering phones, transferring calls, taking messages, and complying with all health and safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment.
