About The Position

The Clinical Interpreter (Bilingual) will assist English and Spanish speaking patients with Medicaid applications. The major responsibility is processing Medicaid applications for Spanish speaking patients who need financial assistance. This role involves proficiency in verifying Medicaid applications, increasing knowledge of Medicaid categories, DHS programs, and UAMS internal programs, and developing a beginning understanding of Medicaid policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or High School diploma plus 4 years formal interpreting experience
  • Able to follow oral and written instructions and communicate with others effectively.
  • Strong computer/basic keyboard skills, telephone skills, and general knowledge of office machines including printers.
  • Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience interpreting and translating, preferably in a medical setting, including one year medical, Medicaid, and clerical experience
  • Experience in healthcare insurance and billing.
  • Knowledge in advanced medical terminology and medical coding.
  • Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Assist English and Spanish speaking patients with Medicaid applications.
  • Process Medicaid applications for Spanish speaking patients who need financial assistance.
  • Verify Medicaid applications.
  • Increase knowledge of Medicaid categories, DHS programs, and UAMS internal programs.
  • Develop a beginning understanding of Medicaid policies and procedures.
  • Analyze patient’s responsibility by understanding verification of assets, family size, citizenship status and FPL.
  • Key Medicaid cases into DHS eligibility system.
  • Retrieve eligibility information from different databases.
  • Submit weekly spreadsheets of cases in need of additional review.
  • Determine eligibility for Spanish and English speaking patients for Medicaid, EMA and financial assistance programs available.
  • Provide assistance in obtaining coverage for patients who are underinsured and uninsured.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge-base of Medicaid policies and procedures, maintains current knowledge of all federal and state regulatory mandates and requirements including but not limited to Medicare, EMTALA, and JCAHO; successfully completes annual competency test and any additional competency testing and training required to validate required skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned with a positive team attitude.
