About The Position

The Clinical Interpreter (Bilingual) will assist English and Spanish speaking patients with Medicaid applications. Major responsibility is processing Medicaid applications for our Spanish speaking patients who need financial assistance. Proficiency in verification of Medicaid application. Increases knowledge of Medicaid categories; DHS programs and UAMS internal programs. Beginning understanding of Medicaid policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or High School diploma plus 4 years formal interpreting experience
  • Able to follow oral and written instructions and communicate with others effectively.
  • Strong computer/basic keyboard skills, telephone skills, and general knowledge of office machines including printers.
  • Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience interpreting and translating, preferably in a medical setting, including one year medical, Medicaid, and clerical experience
  • Experience in healthcare insurance and billing.
  • Knowledge in advanced medical terminology and medical coding.
  • Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting Spanish speaking patients with Medicaid applications.
  • Processing Medicaid applications for Spanish speaking patients needing financial assistance.
  • Verifying Medicaid applications.
  • Increasing knowledge of Medicaid categories, DHS programs, and UAMS internal programs.
  • Developing a beginning understanding of Medicaid policies and procedures.
  • Analyzing patient responsibility by understanding verification of assets, family size, citizenship status, and FPL.
  • Keying Medicaid cases into the DHS eligibility system.
  • Retrieving eligibility information from different databases.
  • Submitting weekly spreadsheets of cases needing additional review.
  • Understanding the complete Medicaid interview process.
  • Determining eligibility for Spanish and English speaking patients for Medicaid, EMA, and available financial assistance programs.
  • Providing assistance in obtaining coverage for underinsured and uninsured patients.
  • Performing other duties as assigned with a positive team attitude.
  • Developing and maintaining a knowledge base of Medicaid policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of all federal and state regulatory mandates and requirements including but not limited to Medicare, EMTALA, and JCAHO.
  • Successfully completing annual competency tests and any additional competency testing and training required to validate required skills.
