About The Position

Providence is calling for a Clinical Ethicist. The Clinical Ethicist provides support to the Chief Integrated Ethics Officer or the VP of System Ethics Services in the provision of ethics services in a PSJH region to advance the theological and ethical dimensions of the PSJH health care ministry consistent with the PSJH Mission and Values and the Theology and Ethics statement of Vision. The vision is: "We animate and energize the moral identity of PSJH as a ministry of the Catholic Church at the service of all, empowering caregivers and leaders in developing personal and professional capacities for ethical decision making in alignment with the Mission and Values of PSJH. We nurture conditions where individuals and the organization can act with integrity and justice in identifying and responding to emerging ethical and social issues." This role normally reports to the Chief Integrated Ethics Officer or the VP of System Ethics Services. The Clinical Ethicist supports the work of the Chief Integrated Ethics Officer (as applicable), provides direct ethics support for local ministry ethics committees, provides clinical ethics consultation and ethics education, and assists others with policy development and review. The Clinical Ethicist serves on local ministry ethics committees and various committees and councils of the Theology and Ethics Department, and contributes to system-wide projects and initiatives of the Department and other departmental goals. This role works on site in Irvine with the expectation of travel to Texas a minimum of once a quarter. Providence caregivers are not simply valued – they’re invaluable. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Bioethics, Moral Philosophy, Moral Theology, or clinical concentration with significant coursework in Bioethics, Moral Philosophy, or Moral Theology.
  • Equivalent education/experience.
  • One of the following: (1) Completed fellowship: two years of fellowship training in clinical ethics by an established, well-organized program; and/or (2) 3 years of supervised clinical ethics experience in a Catholic health care setting or other faith-based health care setting.

Responsibilities
