The Clinical Educator for the Emergency Department functions in a role requiring advanced knowledge and skills in clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and change leadership. These are essential to advance the practice of nursing and the professional development of nurses. The specialized knowledge and nursing skills are used within three major areas of focus: patients and their families, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization/system. The Emergency Department Clinical Educator and the Leadership Team are partners in leading the nursing clinical practice in this area. The Educator is accountable for collaborating with members of the health care system to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies. The Clinical Educator is responsible for developing and mentoring, as well as facilitating precepting of new nurses to the Emergency Department. Other responsibilities include maintaining the knowledge and practice of the experienced nursing staff and nursing support staff in the department. The Clinical Educator must maintain current professional knowledge, competencies, and contribute to the advancement of the practice of Emergency Department at the unit and system level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent clinical experience in Emergency Department or current Clinical Educator for an Emergency Department.
  • Current Louisiana RN License.
  • Current BLS certifications through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: American Heart Association or American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check-off.
  • Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • Basic knowledge of adult learning principles with demonstrated competence in verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal/social skills with clients, colleagues, and peers.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Specialty certification desired.
  • Experience with Articulate 360 preferred.
  • Experience with administrative/course creation in a Learning Management System preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Functions in the role of the Clinical Educator for the Emergency Department.
