About The Position

The Service Line Clinical Educator (CE) is a Nursing Professional Development (NPD) practitioner who functions as both a specialist in their clinical service line (e.g., Critical Care, Emergency Services, Perioperative, Med-Surg, Women's/Children's, etc.) and a generalist educator for the system. Grounded in the ANPD Practice Model and adult learning principles, the CE is accountable for advancing clinical competence, supporting evidence-based practice, and fostering professional development. This role is essential in delivering system-aligned education that prepares our workforce to provide safe, high-quality, evidence-based care. The CE ensures that education and competency programs are aligned with ANPD domains of practice, organizational priorities, and specialty-specific standards. Responsible for service line orientation and professional development, initial and annual competencies, education/development for new and current clinical associates. The role collaborates with nursing leadership, preceptors, and other departments to achieve quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and workforce readiness. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and evaluates orientation for new clinical associates within the service line.
  • Coordinates and delivers service line–specific transition to practice program(s).
  • Provides support to preceptors and clinical leaders in validating clinical competency using evidence-based methods and specialty standards.
  • Accountable for initial and ongoing competency development for clinical nursing department associates.
  • Develop and implement competency frameworks using evidence-based models (e.g., Donna Wright, ANPD standards).
  • Ensure compliance with DNV, CMS, and certification requirements.
  • Assesses learning needs and develops tailored education plans for nursing service lines.
  • Designs and facilitates educational activities using multiple adult-learner centered modalities (simulation, classroom, digital, JIT, etc.).
  • Integrates national professional organization guidelines (e.g., AACN, ENA, AORN, AWHONN, AMSN) into education.
  • Serves as a mentor for development of clinical associates.
  • Promotes professional role development and advancement opportunities.
  • Collaborates with interprofessional teams, clinical leaders, and educators across the system to ensure consistency and reduce duplication.
  • Participates in councils, committees, and initiatives that advance patient safety, quality, and professional practice.
  • Serve as a consultant for leaders on associate development, education, and clinical practice change.
  • Supports integration of evidence-based practice and quality improvement.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports education outcomes to guide program improvement and support organizational goals.
  • Advocates for a supportive learning environment that fosters resilience, professional identity formation, and associate well-being.
  • Promotes lifelong learning, inclusion, and equity in professional development.
  • Provides expert education/development consultation for specialty practice within the service line.
  • Demonstrates leadership in practice transitions, policy/procedure/process development, and system initiatives.
