About The Position

The Department of Psychiatry (DOP) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU), the Division of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (DCAMH), and the Pediatric Mental Health Institute (PMHI) of Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) are seeking a full-time Clinical Director of Intensive Services. This role involves transforming children’s mental health care in Colorado by building a coordinated, collaborative system that provides high-quality, evidence-based, youth- and family-centered care. The Clinical Director will advance clinical care, research, and education to lead the Hospital-Based Section as a national leader in child mental health services. The focus is on improving care for patients in the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (IPU) and the Neuropsychiatric Special Care (NSC) Inpatient and Day Treatment programs. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated programmatic leadership and experience in a high-functioning, interdisciplinary, academic pediatric mental health program. Responsibilities include overseeing clinical programming, monitoring quality and regulatory efforts, optimizing clinical operations for the quadruple aim, supporting training and research missions, sustaining and growing the Section, enhancing multidisciplinary quality and research programs, and fostering strong collaborative relationships.

Requirements

  • Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D.
  • Must have a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado.
  • Must have completed an APA-approved doctoral training program, including an APA-approved internship.

  • Ability to provide effective supervision to mental health trainees and consultation with other mental health professionals.
  • Knowledge of research and quality improvement methodology, as well as the ability to independently conduct research and/or quality improvement projects.
  • Clinical expertise in evidence-based practices for children and families served within pediatric hospital-based clinical services.
  • Ability to balance the priorities of the Section with those of PMHI, CHCO, DCAMH/DOP, and other partners to ensure the overall goals of all entities are achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with PMHI and Section Leadership in designing and implementing evidence-based clinical programming within IPU and NSC
  • Collaborate with PMHI and Section Leadership to set standards of practice within IPU and NSC
  • Collaborative with PMHI and CHCO Leadership in coordinating effective care delivery for extended stay patients
  • Collaborate with PMHI and Section Leadership in programmatic/clinic operations, tactical planning, and regulatory efforts within IPU and NSC
  • Lead efforts to monitor and maintain fidelity to standards of practice and clinical models used within IPU and NSC
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of clinical services within IPU and NSC to ensure effectiveness of care being provided
  • Lead quality improvement activities and conduct high-quality research within IPU and NSC
  • Collaborate with PMHI and Section Leadership to coordinate and collaborate on initiatives, projects, and processes within and across PMHI Sections
  • Provide direct clinical care to patients and families seen in relevant PMHI clinical services
  • Contribute to the DOP teaching and scholarship in ways consistent with the expectations of CU faculty, advancing the standing of the Department
  • Engage in service to the department, hospital, and local/regional/national organizations
  • Maintain eligibility for CU faculty appointment
  • Supervise (e.g., hire, terminate, discipline, and approve leave) faculty psychologists primarily working in IPU and NSC within the Hospital-Based Section.
