About The Position

This Clinical Counseling position is to provide professional mental health counseling and consultation services for the campus community. The Clinical Counselor will incorporate a brief therapeutic model to address the emotional and behavioral needs of students, serve as a resource and consultant to campus, create developmental programming to increase healthy lifestyle and coping behaviors across campus, provide leadership and advocacy for the University mental health policy and initiatives. The Counselor will provide individual and group counseling to students struggling with developmental and/or personal mental health issues and will preferably have a background in trauma, neuro diversity, and disordered eating. When needed, refer students to appropriate community resources. Facilitate psycho-educational and process-oriented groups. Provide consultation to faculty and staff regarding mental health issues that impact our students and campus. Provide supervision for Graduate Level Trainees and Post Graduate LPC-ITs. Serve on multi-disciplinary campus committees and regular staff meetings. Provide presentations and outreach activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Counseling
  • Current Wisconsin Licensure (LPC, Licensed Psychologist) or if not yet licensed in WI, will investigate and pursue appropriate licensure in WI upon hire
  • Minimum of 4 years licensed counseling experience required
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including experience in public speaking.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional counseling experience in a college/university counseling center or with young adults
  • Ability to provide consistent campus programming on a variety of wellness and mental health topics throughout the year.
  • Experience working with disordered eating.
  • Experience working with trauma.
  • Experience with neuro diverse presentations.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds, including varying races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities, and socioeconomic circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling utilizing developmental, preventative, and consultative methods to students, utilizing a brief therapeutic model of service provision, when needed refer students to appropriate community resources
  • Facilitate psycho-educational and process-oriented groups
  • Provide consultation to faculty, staff regarding mental health issues that impact our students, including underrepresented and special populations, on-campus
  • Provide supervision for Graduate Level Trainees and Post Graduate LPC-ITs.
  • Serve on multi-disciplinary campus committees and attend regular staff meetings.
  • Work in a collaborative team-oriented environment with colleagues in and out of the office on efforts aimed toward facilitating student adjustment and success
  • Provide crisis counseling and initial intake assessments
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, coaches, university personnel, and community members to promote a healthy campus.
  • Provide presentations, programming, outreach, and marketing related to services and mental health issues.
  • Provide advocacy for mental health policy and initiatives to support the academic mission of the university
  • Recommends referrals, schedules logistics, and secures resources for clients to receive medical care or various program assistance to help clients live and work more independently
  • Evaluates mental and physical health and behavior and treatment readiness; and develops, coordinates, and disseminates treatment plans for clients and their families in collaboration with medical professionals
  • Provides training and guidance to students or interns as needed
  • Teaches clients and support systems about disorders and helps develop strategies to cope with mental and physical health and behavior problems
  • Facilitates community education programs and/or support groups to help individuals and community members understand the needs and abilities of people with disabilities
  • Completes reports related to clinical treatment, patient planning, and/or medical care according to established policies and procedures
