About The Position

The Clinical Cardiovascular Data Manager provides strategic leadership for cardiovascular clinical data management, registry oversight, analytics, regulatory reporting, quality improvement, and performance benchmarking across the Cardiovascular Service Line. The role serves as the subject matter expert for cardiovascular data integrity, actionable analytics, and performance measurement to support executive decision-making, accreditation, physician engagement, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement. This position manages cardiovascular registries and data systems, including registry submissions, abstraction, validation, reporting, and benchmarking. It works with physicians, nurses, hospital leadership, Quality, Finance, IT, Coding, Medical Records, EMS agencies, and vendors to improve cardiovascular outcomes, maintain compliance, and support service-line strategy. The position is not a patient care role. It also supports STEMI program reporting and education, accreditation readiness, committee meetings, and executive presentations.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, Public Health, Clinical Informatics, Data Analytics, or a related healthcare field.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in cardiovascular registry management, quality improvement, clinical analytics, or healthcare data management.
Knowledge of clinical pathways or guidelines for congestive heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, open-heart surgery, cardiac catheterization, PCI procedures, and cardiac rhythm management.
Ability to use clinical pathway knowledge for accurate data collection and valid, relevant reports.
Ability to understand medical terminology and work with patient medical records.
Ability to interpret normal 12-lead electrocardiograms.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, respond appropriately to urgent requests, and meet deadlines and budget limitations in a multiple-project environment.
Strong organization, attention to intricate and detailed subject matter, deductive reasoning, judgment, and independent problem-solving skills.
Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.
Ability to educate team members, staff across departments, physicians, and nurses about information processes related to Cardiovascular Service Line objectives.
Proficiency, or ability to become proficient, with computer operating systems and database, spreadsheet, and word-processing programs.
Ability to design and run queries and produce standardized and custom reports.
Initiative, creativity, resourcefulness, and flexibility.
Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) certification required within 30 days of hire.
Maintain HIPAA standards in all reporting and data sharing.
Required measles, mumps, varicella, and annual influenza immunizations, subject to medical or religious exemptions consistent with applicable law.

Responsibilities

Lead cardiovascular registry operations, including ACC/NCDR, STS, Chest Pain, and other applicable registries, ensuring complete, accurate, and timely submissions.
Maintain primary responsibility for cardiovascular registries and reporting to the American College of Cardiology, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, California CABG Outcomes Reporting Program, and Marin County EMS STEMI program.
Develop and maintain data governance standards, validation processes, and quality controls to ensure data integrity.
Oversee contracted cardiovascular data abstraction services and address data quality gaps with vendors.
Perform concurrent and retrospective data abstraction from patient records, interfaced data, and daily rounds.
Develop workflow systems to ensure data completeness and accuracy.
Analyze clinical, operational, financial, and quality data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
Design and maintain executive dashboards, physician scorecards, service-line performance reports, custom queries, and standardized reports.
Collect and disseminate STEMI outcome data to hospitals, EMS agencies, the EMS County, and other acute care facilities; prepare reports for bi-annual EMS County meetings.
Educate EMS agencies about STEMI code cancellations to help avoid unnecessary hospital costs.
Develop templates and methods for presenting outcomes data at Procedural Cardiology and Cardiothoracic meetings; coordinate related data projects and committees.
Provide statistical data to CVSL and Medical Directors to assess case volume, procedures, complexity, utilization, room and procedure times, and complications.
Train and direct clerical data-entry staff and guide data-acquisition staff to maintain data quality and benchmarking standards.
Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, hospital leadership, and other departments to drive quality improvement and improve cardiovascular outcomes.
Lead multidisciplinary quality-improvement initiatives using registry benchmarking and evidence-based performance measures; identify trends, opportunities, and risks through analysis.
Support accreditation readiness and regulatory reporting for cardiovascular programs, including chest pain center certification support for the CVSL CNS.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, Joint Commission, ACC, STS, and applicable regulatory standards.
Serve as the cardiovascular analytics subject matter expert for committees and executive leadership presentations; present data to the executive team on a coordinated basis.
Create and manage data infrastructure for the Cardiovascular Service Line, including analytic tools used at MarinHealth.
Participate in the selection, implementation, optimization, and oversight of cardiovascular information systems and vendor solutions; act as primary contact for IT support staff.
Work with hospital staff, Quality Management, and Medical Records to maintain database software, interfaces, accurate patient databases, coding, and reporting.
Participate in annual capital budget review and operational expense planning for existing registries, databases, and technology requirements.
Support Cardiovascular Service Line staff with Office Suite applications, and assist with Marin Heart Institute symposia and classes.
Schedule monthly Procedural Cardiology and Cardiothoracic meetings; prepare agendas and ensure minutes and sign-in sheets are complete and accurate for CME compliance.
Report unusual occurrences involving potential risk management or quality assurance issues to the CVSL Medical Director and, as indicated, the CVSL Director.
Maintain confidentiality of medical information in accordance with state and federal regulations and hospital and departmental policy.
Oversee third-party vendors, including requests for proposals and vendor selection.
Participate in special meetings, work groups, professional organizations, and user groups as requested; perform other duties as assigned.
