About The Position

This position is for a Clinical Assistant in a school-based setting. The role involves a variety of clinical duties to support healthcare providers and ensure efficient clinic operations. Requirements

  • Completion of Medical Assisting program, with evidence of training in clinic procedures and duties.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Required.
  • None (experience not required).
  • Appropriate clinical skills, telephone, and computer skills.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Flexible in accepting work assignments.
  • Ability to respond appropriately and consistently to managerial directives.
  • Ability to seek and utilize supervision appropriately.
  • Able to communicate effectively with, and relate to, a diverse population.
  • Flexible and able to function in a team setting.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to all patients.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and or walk for an entire workday.

Responsibilities

  • Answers telephones promptly, handles/screens calls, schedules patient appointments, and takes messages.
  • Verifies insurance coverage, conducts income determinations, assigns payment category, and updates patient information.
  • Collects fees, issues receipts, and is responsible for safeguarding monies collected.
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms and assists in preparing them for healthcare providers by obtaining vital signs, height and weight, determining the reason for the visit, checking immunization status, and performing appropriate screening assessments.
  • Assists medical/nursing providers with physical exams, gynecological exams, minor surgery/suture placement or removal, wound care, nebulizer treatments, audio/tympanometry, and other procedures as requested.
  • Performs minor laboratory tests (hemoglobin, blood glucose, urinalysis, strep, mono) and phlebotomy services.
  • Prepares laboratory specimens for analysis and enters orders for completed testing and health maintenance measures.
  • Responds and assists staff with emergencies when needed.
  • Prepares and administers medications including immunizations ordered by the provider or per protocol.
  • Documents accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) and follows specific protocols.
  • Participates in mandated professional development trainings and webinars.
  • Updates EHR and maintains accurate clinical data with incoming medical reports.
  • Sends appropriate reports to be scanned and performs follow-up functions as assigned.
  • Informs patients of lab and diagnostic test results as delegated by the provider.
  • Provides limited patient education as directed by the provider or team leader.
  • Processes clinical forms as appropriate.
  • Maintains the clinical environment, including cleaning and disinfecting exam rooms and work areas.
  • Participates in procedure room checks, refrigerator temperature checks, medication and supplies expiration date checks, and quality control assessments for CLIA Waived in-house labs.
  • Maintains and uses equipment appropriately and reports any malfunctions.
  • Serves as an advocate for school-based health center (SBHC) services in the school environment and community.
  • Assists other SBHC staff with special projects that include health promotion and outreach.
  • Participates in after-hours school-related activities when needed.
  • Maintains desktop tasks and assists as delegated by Nurse Manager/School Health Services Director.
  • Fills in for other staff as needed and qualified.
  • Assists the Nurse Manager as necessary.
  • Participates in team meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
