About The Position

The University of Alabama School of Social Work seeks an innovative practitioner and leader for a renewable-contract, non-tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor. This is a nine-month, in-person appointment beginning August 16, 2027, and is not remote. A summer supplement is provided when the faculty member has responsibilities in the DSW summer program. The successful candidate will advance the School’s workforce development initiatives through education, research, and service. The area of practice expertise is open, with examples including school or medical social work. Candidates with expertise in policy practice, program or community development, or organizational leadership are especially encouraged to apply. The School offers BSW, MSW, DSW, and Ph.D. degrees in social work.

Requirements

MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited institution.
At least three years of post-MSW social work experience.
A doctorate degree; a DSW or PhD in social work is preferred, though a doctoral degree in a related discipline will be considered.
Social work practice experience.

Nice To Haves

Teaching and curriculum development experience, especially best practices in online education.
Knowledge of social work evaluation methodologies and experience evaluating practice.
Experience mentoring graduate students.
Post-DSW/PhD practice experience.
Expertise in policy practice, program or community development, or organizational leadership.

Responsibilities

Develop and teach practice and clinical courses in the MSW and DSW programs.
Advise DSW students, particularly on comprehensive papers and capstone projects.
Prepare and present content at the DSW program’s on-campus summer residency.
Produce original research and scholarship.
Teach BSW practice courses as needed.
