The Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in biochemistry, with an emphasis on metabolism. The department is especially interested in collaborative, interdisciplinary scientists pursuing mechanistic research on intermediary metabolism and metabolic regulation, connections with core biological processes or metabolic dysfunction, and innovative approaches to studying cell metabolism. Areas of interest include cellular and organellar metabolism; metabolic signaling; systems and computational approaches; enzymology and metabolic regulation; structural and chemical biology of metabolic pathways; and the biochemical basis of metabolic diseases, including diabetes, obesity, tumor metabolism, and inborn errors of metabolism. The successful candidate will establish and sustain a vibrant, independent research program; teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and contribute to departmental, university, and professional administration and governance through appropriate service. Applicants should have plans for an exciting independent research program and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education. The position provides start-up funds, salary, and laboratory space in an interactive research environment in Austin. Faculty may participate in the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Graduate Programs, including the Biochemistry Graduate Program, and have access to research facilities and collaborations across UT Austin. Candidates are encouraged to apply for support from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).
