The Clinical Assistant/Milk Tech works primarily in the Centralized Milk Processing Room, preparing feedings for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The role coordinates aspects of patient care by managing communication and clerical tasks essential to unit operations, monitoring and stocking supplies, and performing patient care and related functions as delegated by and under the direction of a registered nurse. The position is cross-trained to work in the milk room and has little to no direct patient care responsibility. The NICU is a 50-bed unit caring for premature and full-term infants requiring specialty care from the Neonatology team, from birth through discharge. Some infants are transferred from other hospitals. The unit’s multidisciplinary team partners with parents to provide nursing and medical care.
